ICT Market Tendencies
The Norwegian economy is very robust and naturally wealthy in oil and fish due to its location on the North Sea coast. The country has so far remained neutral concerning its adhesion to the EU, but this has not prevented it from developing good commercial relationships with the other Nordic countries.
Norway is regarded as a small and homogeneous market as far as the ICT distribution network is concerned.
The main sectors driving the market are finance and media (one-third of the total ICT spending), manufacturing (20%) and the public sector (13%). In the hardware market, statistics show that product maturity is in the dominant phase. Sales increase every year, but prices and margins continue to decrease. Multimedia professional equipment, digital transmitters and data storage are very consistent sales. Competent application software, along with systems and security solutions are the two key drivers of growth for the software market.
As for services, the market is oriented towards the ICT segment through open source solutions, middleware and virtualization. Outsourcing also represents an important factor in the services sector, especially for service-oriented architecture. CRM/ERP and e-commerce are also expected to continue the growth trend in the years to come. Integrated systems are being renewed, especially in SMB companies.
With a very healthy telecom infrastructure, Norway is one of the highest consumers of mobile systems per capita. Mobility solutions are increasingly popular over time. HDTVs, portable music, mobility products and digital cameras have a positive influence on the B2C electronics market.
