Hello [DB:Firstname], Back to using carrier pigeons? Now everyone knows that our most personal data can be scrutinized by our respective governments, - not such big news in itself, governments have spied on their citizens since the dawn of time - however what is new is the fact that what used to be done in a small, makeshift way in the back office of the postal service is now being carried out in ultra modern buildings with the more or less forced complicity of the large telecom operators

Jack MandardBack to using carrier pigeons?

Now everyone knows that our most personal data can be scrutinized by our respective governments, - not such big news in itself, governments have spied on their citizens since the dawn of time - however what is new is the fact that what used to be done in a small, makeshift way in the back office of the postal service is now being carried out in ultra modern buildings with the more or less forced complicity of the large telecom operators.

What is even more surprising is not that this is happening, but that ultimately it is fairly well accepted, and that, once the mediatic cries die down, the system will continue with a new kind of legitimacy since this shameful act has finally been revealed, so that it is no longer so shameful.

The question our occidental society can legitimately ask itself is why we accept so complacently that the State can scrutinize us so easily. Of course the events of 9/II gave a justifiable alibi to the heads of state we elected, but it is interesting to note that no party bases its marketing policy on the abrogation of telephone spying. No party promises to send in the bulldozers to destroy the call monitoring centres, because they know that they have the implicit compliance of the population. Citizens tell themselves that such is the price of their security. The problem with a weapon isn’t so much its existence as its use. However, statistically it has also been shown that the more a weapon becomes available the more likely it will probably be used one day by an ill-intentioned person or state, and it is also probable, as history has shown, that the shield won’t always win against the sword.
